I tried to think of some new features to add to the Category Posts Widget, but I couldn’t think of anything worth adding. Instead I fixed some bugs and tweaked how the plugin behaves.
Changes:
- Fixed widget options save bug where title had to be specified in order to save options.
- If no title is specified, the name of the category is used.
- Maximum number of widgets increased to 20.

WP Tag Manager 0.1.1 is only a bug fix, so no new features yet. Refer back to the 0.1 release entry for a feature list.
Changes:
- Fix for when WordPress is installed in a directory other than the blog address. This created a 404 error.
- Tags are alphabetically ordered instead of by ID.

One of the things that puzzled me about WordPress 2.3 is that it didn’t come with a tag manager. Then I realized they probably wanted to see what plugin developers would come up with first. Well, after looking around at some tag manager plugins, I decided to write my own. My goal is to create a tag manager that is feature rich and easy to use that also seamlessly integrates into the WordPress admin so that it looks like it is a part of the admin itself rather than an add-on.

I present to you, my Category Posts Widget WordPress plugin. This isn’t my first WordPress plugin by any means, but it is the first one I’ve released to the public. This one actually arose from my most recent project, nukoda.com, where I needed to display the most recent posts from a category in the sidebar. I went searching around for an existing solution, but didn’t find one that suited my tastes. I wanted a simple widget, that allowed me to:
- Specify how many posts to show
- Set which category the posts should come form
- Designate how many of the widgets I needed
My search didn’t yield anything that fit my criteria and my criteria only so I ended up creating one. The documentation for creating a widget with dialogs and controls is not very good and almost nonexistent so it took me a couple days of hacking to figure it out, but here it is.
