About

My name is James Lao. I’m an undergraduate computer science major at Carnegie Mellon University. My interests in computer science include scalability, robotics, and programming languages (functional languages in particular). I also enjoy good design and user interfaces.

In the summer of 2010 I interned at Amazon. I can’t say much about what I worked on but I wrote Java web services and a Ruby on Rails web application.

Previously, I worked at Vernier Software & Technology. I started as an intern in the summer of 2007 while still in high school. I developed web applications for internal use but quickly proved my abilities and worked on public facing web sites. After my internship I was hired on as a seasonal employee, returning to work during the summer and winter breaks when I was out of school. My time there was very educational and invaluable to me. It gave me a chance to hone my skills as a programmer and learn from people far wiser than me.
