Simple Plugins for Press75.com

I wrote a couple WordPress plugins for Jason Schuller over at Press75.com. Jason designs premium themes for WordPress. Many of his themes have been video centric and he asked me to write a couple plugins to make it easier for his customers to post videos.

Simple Video Embedder adds a widget to the posting screen with fields for inputting URLs to videos on popular video sharing sites such as YouTube and Vimeo. The plugin can automagically generate embed codes for many video sites, but also provides a manual embed code field for unsupported ones.

Simple Post Thumbnails adds a widget to the posting screen as well. It provides an upload form to upload an image to use as a thumbnail. The plugin will crop and resize the image to the correct size for you so you don’t have to open up Photoshop every time you want to post a thumbnail for your posts. The plugin also has another field to input a URL to a remote image which gets downloaded and cropped, making it even easier.

Hope you like the plugins and definitely check out some of Jason’s awesome themes.

Hi, I came across your plugin via wordpress and not via press75 it's a great tool but since i'm not trying to use it for press 75 themes I can't find any support for it.
The plugin for me and for others has that won't pop up when you press the play symbol. Whether I use an iframe or I use a youtube embed code. It'll work if I post the youtube url link into your plugin but not if I add the code. Can you update this plugin to fix the auto play issue?

    Feel free to email me

    Hey James,
I'm a big fan of Press75 and the work you did with Jason. I was curious if you were available to write a WordPress plugin for the the church I work for? If not do you have any suggestions for someone who would be interested in a little side work?
  • Everyone, please post your support questions on the Press75 support forums.

I can not figure out where to put the code:

I tried to put it in single.php, but I get error

"Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/filmprop/public_html/ebayprops.com/wp-content/themes/premiumnews/single.php on line 25"

    Can anyone help?

I tested Vodpod it in IE6 I get about 6 popups that read "Press OK to continue loading the content of this page"
Once the popup boxes go away the thumbnail rotator at the top of the page is blank.

I narrowed it down to the Simple Video Embedder plugin as when it's turned off the errors go away (although the top rotator does not load) any suggestions?

Hi, James. I'm trying to use the Simple Post Thumbnails on Arthemia Free Theme. But unsuccessfully. Do you know this theme? Is it possible to join your plugin on Arthemia?
    What i have to do?

my code was cut out of the above post. here's what i have (inside php tags of course): p75GetThumbnail(int $postID, [int $width, [int $height, [string $fileType]]])

Hi. I'm using the simple post thumbnails, which seems like it will be great if i can figure out what i'm doing wrong. however, i've installed the plugin and i keep getting a t_variable error wherever i put the code that calls the thumbnail.

This is what i have, inside the loop on one of my category archives:

But it says "syntax error, unexpected T_VARIABLE...on line 29," which is where i have put the above code.

Am i using the code incorrectly?

    thanks in advance

... I should say that the reason I am asking this question is to find out where the compression takes place and how best to minimize it... the images I often use are taken from YouTubes thumbnails which are the right size but low quality... thanks ;)

    Hi James...

Just a simple question from a simple guy...

I'm assuming that the Simple Post Thumbnails are "not" re-compressed when they're uploaded to the thumbnails folder... rather they are only renamed...??? And then when the theme requests the image... compression takes place... on the fly... Is this correct...???

    Thanks, deMelo

p.s if the image size/type is the same as the one requested by the theme, is the image still re-compressed or does it just pass through?
  • It is not dependent on an particular theme. I will try to put up a tutorial/screencast in the next couple weeks to demonstrate how to do implement the plugin.

    Hi James,
The simple video embedder plugin is only compatible with the video flick theme. Am I right? I talked to Jason about that and he said that you can use the plugin with the on demand theme too if you make some changes to the theme.
It would be nice if you could tell me how to use the plugin on the other video themes of Jason (on demand, tv elements,...).

    Cheers,
    Josh
  • James, this is excellent. I bought the VideoFlick theme from Jason for one of my projects and the plugins work great.

I have an idea for a theme and I wonder if I can use your plugins into my themes? Jason already put instructions on his site how to use them for other themes, but I thought I'd ask.

The video embedder especially is the best I have seen. Integration inside wp-admin with previews and it takes EVERYTHING :)

    Well done!
  • Jason Rocks! And so do you, James! You guys will make a great team!
