Watch out iPod - Zune

The Zune

I am one of the eight people in the US who does not have an iPod. I have a PSP, but it isn’t a very good music player. It’s not bad, the sound quality is excellent, but it can’t match a dedicated music player. For one, it can’t remember track position if you turn it off, which gets really annoying when you decide to stop in the middle of a forty minute podcast — it takes a long time to fast-forward to the place where you left off.

The remastered iPod nano looked really appealing at first but then came Zune… Microsoft decided to expand there hardware division to also encompass media players. Initial reviews are rather lukewarm, but I think the reviewers are just too attached to their iPods. Some complain about crummy format support and others whine about the Zune music store. But from what I gather, its flaws are pretty trivial. I’ll have to take a look see at the device and decide for myself.

Until I can get a hands-on with the Zune, you’ll have to make do with Gizmodo’s Frankenreview.

Impart your ignorance wisdom.
